Triumph Speed 400 launched in India

Following their global unveiling, one of the Triumph 400 bikes has now been introduced in India. The Triumph Speed 400 is available at a price of Rs 2.33 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The Scrambler 400 X will be released in India at a later date.

Key features of the Triumph Speed 400

The new entry-level Triumph motorcycles are equipped with a liquid-cooled, 398cc, single-cylinder engine. This powerful engine produces 40hp at 8,000rpm and 37.5Nm at 6,500rpm. It is called the TR-series and is paired with a 6-speed gearbox for optimal performance. The output figures of the British duo motorcycles are comparable to the KTM 390s, which are also manufactured in India by Bajaj. However, the British motorcycles achieve their peak figures earlier in the rev band.

The smaller Speed and Scrambler bikes take design cues from their larger counterparts in the bikemaker's lineup. Despite their affordable price, they boast a premium fit and finish. Both bikes are equipped with a digi-analogue display, which is a unique feature in this category. Additionally, they offer the option to add heated grips, which is quite rare. The Speed 400 model features 17-inch alloy rims and is equipped with MRF Steel Brace tires, which were recently introduced on the Ultraviolette F77. It should be noted that these are not the premium Metzeler or Pirelli tires that were showcased in international press images. Some Speed 400 bikes were equipped with Apollo Alpha H1 tires, while others had different ones. It is not yet clear which type of tire will be used on customer bikes, or if both options will be available. Similarly, the Scrambler 400 X model comes with 19/17-inch alloy rims and MRF Zapper Kurve tires that are suitable for both on-road and off-road use.

Priced at Rs 2.33 lakh, the Triumph Speed 400 offers a more affordable option compared to its competitors such as the KTM 390 Duke (priced at Rs 2.97 lakh), BMW G 310 R (priced at Rs 2.85 lakh), and RE Interceptor 650 (priced between Rs 3.03 lakh to Rs 3.31 lakh).

Both bikes offer a generous warranty of 2 years with no mileage restrictions, ensuring peace of mind for the buyers. Additionally, they have a service interval of 16,000 km, which means less frequent maintenance needs. The Speed 400 model will be released in late July, followed by the Scrambler 400 X in October.
